TWO LOVERS DANCING THROUGH TIME :: VR TRANSFORMS INTO AN SKEWED “FLAT” FILM

THROUGH YOU is a visceral poem that premiered at Sundance as a VR project. It was then reincarnated as a 2-D “flat” film utilizing kaleidoscopic and inverted POVs and experimental editing techniques to evoke a kinetic feeling similar to that inside the VR headset.

This athletically vibrant and sensual story explores love across a lifetime, challenging you to feel intimacy and loss by casting you, the viewer, in the role of “a memory” belonging to a young woman who grows old and eventually sets herself, and you, free.

“My intentions in this exploration were to repurpose the multi-povs inherent in 360 degrees of visibility within a distinct cinematic language. I tried pressing simultaneous timelines (for me a conceptual touchstone in VR) into a two dimensional rectangle, and decided to measure “narrative” as an emotional trajectory rather than a horizontal sequence of cause and effect plot points.”
