CHRONICLE OF HIP

AN ANTI-MEMOIR ON LIVING WITH PAIN

Chronicle of Hip (COH) Cinematic Handbook is an anti-memoir-meets-dance-score that circumnavigates personal-hypothesizing: a brass-tacks, diaristic capture of a medical saga that is also a theoretical inquiry into pain, isolation, and what it means to go public with agony. Baldwin uses expository personal material––from X-rays and hospital bracelets to lovers’ texts and social media posts––to examine stigmas around pain and investigate the inadequacies of our medical system. Inspired by artists such as Maggie Nelson and Sophie Calle, Baldwin’s newest project experiments with hybrid forms, merges the personal with researched commentary, and meticulously documents her own life to excavate broader cultural proclivities and biases.
