CHRONICLE OF HIP
AN ANTI-MEMOIR ON LIVING WITH PAIN
Chronicle of Hip (COH) Cinematic Handbook is a brass-tacks, diaristic capture of Baldwin’s own medical saga that also serves as a theoretical inquiry into pain, isolation, and the voyeuristic impulse. Baldwin uses expository personal material––from X-rays and hospital bracelets to lovers’ texts and social media posts––to circumnavigate personal-hypothesizing and investigate the inadequacies of our medical system. Inspired by artists such as Maggie Nelson and Sophie Calle, Baldwin’s newest project experiments with hybrid forms, merges the personal with researched commentary, and meticulously documents her own life to excavate broader cultural proclivities and biases that ultimately question our cultures of beauty.
