ECSTASIE

ECSTASY THRIVES BEYOND THE STATUS QUO IN ECSTASIE

TIMES SQUARE SCREENING

“Ecstasie is an inquisitive and aesthetically beautiful film that captures a queer body in ways we rarely see.”

SAM FEDER of Disclosure (2020) and Heightened Scrutiny (2025)

An intimate conversation between interdisciplinary artist Liz Rosenfeld and director Lily Baldwin, ECSTASIE explores the privilege and responsibility of physical presence, prompting viewers to reconsider the power dynamics inherent in our role as observers. This evocative hybrid film re-visions cinematic conventions through a fusion of experimental documentary storytelling with live performance. Produced by Margo Mars (Imogen, Êxtase) and executive produced by Sam Feder (Heightened Scrutiny, Disclosure), ECSTASIE is a transcendental filmic experience of personal freedom and rapture.

FILMMAKER’S NOTE: How does ecstasy move? Can it be captured? What harm might a director cause by exploiting shared intimacy? What lives in the intersection between a true lived act, performance, and digitization? In the spirit of art as an always ongoing process, this experimental film embraces indeterminacy and documents these queries without hard knock conclusions.

ECSTASIE lives between ephemeral performance and filmic experiment, resisting voyeurism and acknowledging the camera's proclivity to exploit a subject.

“A mesmerizing and self-reflective document, this work visibilises the dynamics of power between subject and author, implicating us as viewers in the forfeits made by performers. A study in desire and bodily alterity in a time of encroachment upon queer and trans rights, this confronting film arrives as a necessary riposte…“

“The discomfort of being in a body, being observed, observing yourself, entropy, bodily breakdown, and objectification—I see all of that in this work.”
